Free Binayak Sen Medical Camp

February 13, 2011–On behalf of Free Binayak Sen Campaign–Doctors in Solidarity, doctors from Kolkata Port Trust Hospital, Belur Sramajibi Hospital and Sundarban Sramajibi Hospital organised a Free Binayak Sen Specialist Medical Camp today at Sundarban Sramajibi Hospital at Sarberia, North 24 Parganas.

Dr. Debarjun Chatterjee (dentist), Dr. Kishalay Ghosh (dermatologist), Dr. Ashis Chakraborty (cardiologist), Dr. Malay Das (general medicine specialist), Dr. Amita Dasgupta (paediatrician), Dr. Rakesh Bhattacharya (general physician) and Dr. Siddhartha Gupta (pathologist-biochemist) participated in this camp. 231 patients were seen. The purpose of this camp was to gather support to the demand of unconditional release of Dr. Binayak Sen.

Free Binayak Sen Campaign–Doctors in Solidarity organised two Free Binayak Sen Medical Camps today.

Kumartuli, Kolkata– Dr. Sumitran Basu, Dr. Dipanjan Roy and Dr. Malay Bar examined 80 patients in this area which houses the makers of earthenwares.Members of North Kolkata APDR helped to organise this camp.
Kamarhati, North 24 Parganas–Dr. Bhaskar Rao Janaswasthya Committee organised the camp here. 59 patients were served. Dr. Ratul Banerji and Dr. Sabyasachi Pandey, optometrists Bapi Singh and Pradip Hazra participated in this camp.

Besides treating patients, talks on the life and work of Dr. Sen were presented in these camps.

Various mass organizations, human rights organizations and eminent personalities had taken out a huge procession (3000 strong)  from College Qquare to Metro Channel, Esplanade, at 1 PM. On this occasion, a folder containing  a critique of the judgment and other details about human rights issues in Chhattisgarh  was published and 5000 copies were circulated. A booklet on the activities of Dr. Binayak sen was also published and distributed.  In the meeting held at Metro Channel, Mrs Anusuya Sen, mother of Binayak sen,  and Guatam Sen, younger brother of Binayak Sen, addressed the gathering.  Representatives of various organisations including APDR, BMC, IFTU, doctors  also addressed the meeting, demanding the immediate release of Dr. Ilina Sen, and others, release of Asit Sengupta, editor of A world to win , repeal of UAPA and all regional and central anti-terror legislations etc.  At 4-30, another processsion was taken out at the International Kolkata book fair; at 6-30, at UBI auditorium, a seminar was organised in which Mr Himanshu Kumar and others spoke on corporate plunder and issues of Dr. Binayak sen.

St. Xavier’s College Program
4th February 2011

St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, today organised a program on Dr. Binayak Sen at the college auditorium at 3pm. Dr. Punyabrata Gun of Free Binayak Sen Campaign–Doctors in Solidarity described the life and work with a powerpoint presentation. He also explained why the state had considered Dr. Sen dangerous. Mr.Sujato Bhadra of Association for Protection of Democratic Rights explained the fallacies of the Binayak Sen case verdict. Mr. Amit Ghosh of the Statistics Dept. and Mrs. Shweta Ghosh of the Sociology Dept. of the college were organizers of the program. Over one hundred students and teachers attended the program. The program ended with the demand of unconditional release of Dr. Binayak Sen.

Binayak Sen Manch, Bidhan Nagar program, 23rd January, 2011

Under the banner of Binayak Sen Manch-Bidhan Nagar, the residents of Salt Lake met today at 10 am Shrami House, BD-50, Salt Lake to demand unconditional release of Dr. Binayak Sen. Co-convenor of the Manch Tapas Sinha Roy conducted the meeting with Mrs. Mira Mukherjee presiding.

Two of Dr. Binayak Sen’s colleague in Shaheed Hospital, Dr. Asis Kundu and Dr. Punyabrata Gun spoke of the life and work of Dr. Sen. Dr. Sen’s mother-in-law Mrs. Tapati Roy was the next speaker. Among the other speakers were Prof. Abhee Datta Majumdar of TASAM, Bhaskar Sinha Roy and Arunabha Narayan Mukherjee.
The meeting resolved to carry forward the struggle to release Dr. Binayak Sen.
