NEW DELHI: The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Front for Social Consciousness on Saturday passed a resolution demanding release of Binayak Sen, human rights activists and doctor who was arrested on May 14, 2007, for allegedly having links with naxals.
Apart from Dr. Sen’s immediate release, the Front also demanded that draconian laws like the Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act, 2005, (under which the Chhattisgarh Government had arrested him) and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 2004, be repealed.
The Front further demanded withdrawal of all false cases registered against doctors on political considerations, including those registered against doctors of Bihar for treating Nepalese patients in August 2006.
Speaking during discussion, Yogesh Jain, a former AIIMS student , said the State Government has made Dr. Sen a test case to see if it can silence all its critics although the fact was that till date it had failed to furnish any proof in support of the charges against him.
